WH40K - How to paint Power Weapons

Hey guys! As some of you know, i've been working on my plastic converted Vanguard Veterans, and they all have power weapons, so I snapped some pics of a power axe I was working on, and made a guide on how to do awesome looking lightning. Enjoy!

So, base the weapon with chaos black.
Next, basecoat the lightning area with thin layers of regal blue until uniform
Paint lines of enchanted blue in sharp random directions to represent lightning
Go over the enchanted blue with a thinner layer of ice blue for the lightning.

You're done. Enjoy!

Matthew's WIP blog 2 - Plastic Vanguard Veterans part 2

Hey all,
I decided that i'd start working on my vanguard veterans whilst I waited for the chapter master to arrive, so i've done more work, I decided to go for a harder, but great looking helmet technique, consisting of:
-Astronomican Grey [watered down] basecoat.
-HEAVY wash of badab black
-Go back and paint all the flat parts with thin layers of astronomican grey, leaving a thick, even darker shadow-line along all edges.

Here are some pics of what i'm up to.
Below each pic are descriptions of poses etc

Cinematic picture of squad. I think it's awesome :D

Incoming: Ultramarines Chapter Master

You read it right!
After being inspired by retributionangels converted Ultramarines chapter master, I decided I wanted to make my own too! I wanted to make use of the creativity side of the hobby so I will be making my own kit-bashed chapter master with thunder hammer and plasma / bolt pistol. So I headed to a bits website, and picked up all the required pieces for a decent price! it'll take a while to ship though, considering i live in NZ. Update on this in around 1.5 - 2 weeks
Enjoy

-Head: Black Templar upgrade sprue
-Book on backpack: Dark angels upgrade sprue
-Crux terminatus shoulder pad and Ultramarines shoulder pad:SM Captain model sprues
-Body and kneeling legs: Command squad sprue
-Backpack: pretty much anywhere
-Left arm: plasma pistol 'pointing' arm
-Left hand: The unclenched version of a hand from the sanguinary guard box set.
here are some pics. Enjoy!

How To Paint Space Marine Eyes - Red

Hello all!
Welcome to my quick, detailed guide on how to paint space marine eyes in red! This is probably the most common colour of eye lense, and is used by my marines. To complete this, you'll need -
-Chaos black
-Mechrite red
-Blood red
-Blazing Orange
-Skull white
-A fine hand and paintbrush
Enjoy!

STEP ONE -
Basecoat the whole area where the lens is with Chaos black, as illustrated. Be sure not to get any paint outside this lens area.
STEP TWO -
Next, paint in the middle of the basecoated lens with mechrite red [foundation] be sure to leave a thin black line around every part of the eye

STEP THREE -
Now, get blood red, and paint the 1st half OUT FROM the forehead towards the middle of the eye lense

STEP FOUR -
Repeat step three but only go 1 third of the way out, and use Blazing orange instead of blood red.

STEP FIVE -
Get the tiniest dab of skull white on your brush, and put a miniscule dot on the temple side of each eye for a reflection effect. And you're done!

How to Paint Ultramarines Guide

Hi! Its finally finished! This is the way I paint Ultramarines. This guide is loaded with pics and step by step instructions on how to paint them. Enjoy!

STEP 1 : Torso and Legs.

Firstly, Basecoat the miniature using the foundation paint, Mordian blue.
Secondly, wash the the torso and legs with the asurmen blue wash. Don't assemble any other parts of the model at this stage.
Next, basecoat the chest eagle, bolt on the belt, purity seals and weak armour points with Chaos black.
Paint the chest eagle with Dwarf Bronze. Be careful and paint each feather individually or you will not get as good an effect. also, paint the bolt with Boltgun Metal, the tip of the purity seal with mechrite red, and lastly the paper with dheneb stone.
Do the same as before on the chest eagle with Shining Gold, and then wash it with Devlan mud. Wash the belt bolt and seal tip with Badab Black, and lastly wash the purity paper with Devlan Mud.

STEP 2 : Boltgun
Firstly, Base the whole gun with Chaos Black
Then, paint the everything except the "box" bit around the front with Boltgun Metal (This includes eagle and the bullet case thing)
Wash the whole Boltgun with Badab Black.

STEP 3 : Shoulder Pads.
To start, Paint the front with Mordian Blue and wash with Asurmen like before. Then paint the rims including the bottom and the back with chaos black.
Paint the rims again, this time using Dwarf Bronze.
Paint the rims AGAIN but this time use Shining Gold.

STEP 4: Helmet.
The helmet can be very hard to do. You'll need a steady hand to paint eyes to this sort of standard -
But with practice, this can be achieved.
Base the helmet in the same way you did with the body and shoulder pads. Paint the grill, eyes, pipes, skull and little bolts on the side with Chaos Black. For the eyes, paint the whole area with mechrite red, leaving a thin black line between the eye and the helmet. Secondly, paint from the middle of the eye in towards the forhead with Blood Red. Now do the same from a quarter of the way out with Blazing Orange. Lastly, to finish the effect, stipple a tiny white dot on the outside of either eye as small as possible for a shine effect.
Now paint all other parts basecoated with Bolltgun metal, and then wash with Badab Black.

STEP 5 : Backpack
Base in the same way as the helmet, body and shoulder pads. Wash in the same way too. Then base the Jetpack-like grills, skull and the part on the back with the wires in it with Chaos Black. Paint with Boltgun Metal, and wash with Badab Black

STEP 6 : Assembly
All you have to do now is assemble and base your model, and your done! Here are some pictures of my finished product -

Thanks for reading, I hope this helps you guys!
